It’s summertime in Minnesota, and Detroit Lakes has everything for family, friends, and fun!
Located in Becker County, with over 400 lakes within 25 miles, Detroit Lakes is an adventurous and exciting place to be in the summer. If you want something to do individually, with family, or with friends, here is our list of Top 10 Summer Activities in Detroit Lakes.

1. Lake Day
What do all Minnesota summers have in common? Lake days! Enjoy a summer day at Detroit Lake Public Beach, a white sand beach one mile long on the north shore of Little Detroit Lake. Take your boat to one of the many popular lakes, such as Cotton Lake, Lake Melissa, Pelican Lake, and Cormorant Lake. If you live on a lake in Detroit Lakes, remember that Minnesota summers are short, so enjoy while you can!

2. Music in the Park
Stop by at 7 pm every Tuesday at Detroit Lakes City Park. Tickets are free, but donations are always appreciated. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket, and sit back and relax.
3. Farmers Market
Every Tuesday and Saturday in the summer from 10 am-1 pm at Peoples Park. Fresh and local, it doesn’t get much better than that. Come check out some delicious popcorn, beautiful flowers, baked goods, local meat, and more!
4. 87th Northwest Water Carnival
Hosted by Detroit Lakes Jaycees, a not-for-profit organization “dedicated to providing development opportunities that empower young people to make a positive change.” This organization has all sorts of fun fill activities for everyone to enjoy. Ranging from night frisbee golf to turtle/frog races to inner tube races and much more! Drop by between July 14th through July 23rd to participate in the fun and laughter.
5. Crazy Daze
Starting on August 8th from 7 am – 6 pm, located in downtown Detroit Lakes, is the craziest one-day sale! After shopping, you can also grab a bite to eat at one of the many food trucks. A day you do not want to miss.
6. Horseback Riding
Looking to knock something off your bucket list? Timberline Ranch can help you! Bring your little ones five and up and enjoy the beautiful scenery on an hour-long ride at 9 am or 11 am.
7. Fishing
With many lakes to choose from within the Detroit Lakes area, you can fish for walleye, bass, trout, perch, and other panfish. Fish on Detroit Lake, Lake Melissa, Upper Cormorant Lake, Cotton Lake, Pelican Lake, and much more.
8. Biking Trails
Looking to explore some more? Go for a bike ride on the Heartland Trail. This path leads you through the woods to an overlook of Acorn Lake. Eventually, the trail will expand to Moorhead and Fargo, ND.
9. Golfing
Detroit Lakes has seven golf courses for you to choose from. Wildflower Golf Course is famous because of its beautiful landscape, par-72 course. Another course to check out is Forest Hills Resort. This course is an 18-hole championship course with the addition of mini-golf too.
10. We Fest at Soo Pass Ranch in Detroit Lakes
The largest country music and camping festival in the US! If you like country music, this is the place to be from August 3rd-5th. Tickets are still available, but get them before you cannot. Some famous artists coming are Brad Paisley, Kane Brown, Morgan Wallen, Gabby Barrett, Ashley Cooke, and Bailey Zimmerman.
